J Tean Kitchen

Another celebration of my bf's birthday was over lunch at J Tean Kitchen at SS Two Mall. I've heard of their Bak Kut Teh flavoured burger, and of course we were interested to find out how it would taste like. We all ordered a few different things and tried each others food. (Just realised i forgot to take a picture of the pumpkin soup! Or maybe it's in another camera. Will investigate further).

The deco is quite nice, all white with a Chinese-y feel to it. But I found the table and chairs we sat in quite uncomfortable.

Cool lamps!

The other part of the restaurant

Of course we ordered their BKT J-Pork Burger. It had a light BKT taste to it, and there was another sauce in it that we tasted in the J-Porky Bun as well. This burger was ok. Doesn't have a strong BKT taste.

I call it the BKT burger
The Bf loves his BKT, so he ordered their BKT for 1 person. The soup was acceptable, as we like the darker version. Served with rice and garlic + cili padi. We only like certain BKT restaurants, so it's hard to satisfy our tastes.

BKT for 1 person

Some spaghetti, didn't try it

J-Porky Bun. Tastes alright
We ordered the pork knuckle to share. Couldn't get a picture of the before, as the waiters straightaway cut it up for us. I didn't quite like it as it was kinda dry and not that tasty.

J Knuckle
Overall the food is okay. Won't be going there much, as SS Two Mall kinda lacks in tenants.

Ben's General Food Store

I know. I've not blogged for ages. I know. The list of things i need to blog about is piling up! So let me start with this one.

I celebrated my bf's birthday lunch at Ben's General Food Store at Bangsar Village. Love their deco and concept. We heard their breakfast pizza was great, but we tried out something else instead. As usual, i'll let the pictures do the talking.

The dessert station

The bf's flat white

I don't like my coffee too milky, so i went for a cappuccino

Our usual Caesar Salad. That's a crunchy bacon you see there
Carnivore pizza. Yes, we love our meat
And dessert of course. Classic chocolate cake. Yummmmmy.

Was a really good lunch. Will try their breakfast pizza next!

A visit to Checkers

What happens when 4 adults go to a wholesale supermarket with all kinds of junk food from yesteryears?

The bill

Our loot

We were all so excited, remembering the kinds of tidbits we enjoyed when we were in school. Especially the kinds that had small gifts in it.

Dinner and dessert at Holland Village

When we were in Singapore in April (i know, i know, it's 2 months ago), we went to Holland Village for dinner with friends. Had steamboat at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao. It was a buffet style steamboat and you can order as much xiao long bao as you want!

The dinner was good, I especially enjoyed the yam as it comes fried. Yummy yams! They prawns given were big and fresh and don't get me started on the meat.

After dinner, we all decided to have dessert somewhere nearby, and so we headed to nydc. We all shared the desserts as we were already quite stuffed from dinner. (But dessert was a must!)

Affagato

I think this one is elmer fudge cake

The famous boo boo cake

Was a great end to the night. Had a lovely meal coupled with great company. Some whom we have not seen for 5 years! This was sure an enjoyable trip.

Tony Roma's, Singapore

Was in Singapore earlier this month with the bf, so we took the opportunity to have dinner at Tony Roma's. Since you can't get their baby back ribs back here.

For starters, we had half the onion loaf. It's just onion rings stacked nicely. No biggie.

onion loaf

For the main course, we ordered the combo for 2. It consists of ribs, with southwestern chicken, ribeye steak, corn on the cob and coleslaw. The ribs and steak were oh-so tasty! Yums!

the combo platter

Couldn't finish the whole platter, had to doggy bag it and had it for supper. Would definitely go back for the baby back ribs again!!

Dinner at Qba

A couple of weekends ago, we had dinner at Qba located at Westin Hotel. It was our first time there, so we were looking forward to a nice dinner with friends. I was quite trigger happy the whole night, taking photos of all our food and stopping people from eating first. Here are the pictures.

The obligatory menu picture

Our still empty table

The kitchen

Heard they had to fly in a special team to paint the walls this way

We had a full course dinner of starters, mains, side dishes, dessert & coffee. We were all stuffed at the end of the meal.

Wine to kick things off

Salad with blue cheese

Usually, i do not enjoy smoked salmon. But this time, i really enjoyed it. I fell in love with the first mouthful. It really melts in your mouth.

Smoked Salmon

Salad with grilled octopus

Steak fries as a side dish

Lamb cutlet with a banana fritter on top

Rib eye Australian Grain Fed Black Angus Beef

Burned Crème Catalane

Caramelized Argentinian Crepes with Ice-cream

illy coffee

Chocolate cigars to end the meal

It was a very satisfying meal at Qba. The steaks were all right, though Prime is still top of my list.

Monkey business

Happy Chinese New Year all!! How was your holiday? I was back in my hometown for about a week. Though the holidays are over, but CNY is not. The eating and gambling continues!

Back in my hometown, there's a popular park called 'Tanjung Emas' where lots of people go there for the playground, to jog, kite flying, or for a walk by the river. There's also a spot where there are lots of monkeys! People usually go there to look at the monkeys or to feed them. There's usually a trader selling snacks, so the monkeys will crowd around there. After so long, the monkeys are not afraid of people anymore. They can be quite bold and even snatch food from people holding any food. Monkeys eating out from packets of junk food are not a rare sight.

Each evening, locals will take a drive around that place to look at the monkeys. Just like the rest, I followed my brother and his family one evening to watch the monkeys. He parked his car by the roadside for baby Cheyenne to have a better look.

Monkeys sitting around the jogging path

Sometimes the monkeys will jump onto parked cars. If they see something interesting in the car, they will try to grab it only to be deterred by the windows.

I saw this poor guy trying to get into his car. He tried to shoo the monkeys away from the driver's door. After failing to do so, he had to get into the back door on the other side and then crawl into the driver's seat.

Poor guy managed to get into the rear seat

Successfully squeezed into the front

In the end he managed to drive off, but with a couple of monkeys car pooling.

Monkeys hitching a ride back into town?

That was sure an entertaining afternoon.

Somebody ordered a roast pig?

*This post is definitely NOT halal

Attended a big birthday celebration last weekend. It was held in the house for 90 over people. We reached early to help out with the preparations, but everything was already settled. The canopy was up, tables were set, the catered food already warming up and the beers were being chilled in ice.

Soon after we reached, the main course arrived. It sure looked like a dead body under the wrappings.

Roast pork

Little did we know the price includes the butcher as well. He came armed with an assistant, a folded table, chopping board, knife and styrofoam boxes to keep the extra meat. When the dinner started, he started chopping. In no time he had chopped everything up and he even had time to entertain request from the guests.

All chopped up
