Days of our Lives

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives". This is the opening line for the famous American soap opera. Way back in high school i would always look forward to coming home after school cause i get to eat my lunch while watching 'Days of our Lives' on telly (shown on Singapore Channel 5 everyday at 1pm). I got hooked to this soap opera as my mum likes to watch it. When i was younger she used to watch 'The Bold and Beautiful', i can vaguely remember parts of it.

Days of our Lives dates way back to the 1960s but when i started watching the show was in its 1990s. The story revolves around the lives of a few families in Salem. The show is really dramatic and touches on love, marriage, divorce, hate, secrets, backstabbings, health, misunderstandings, exorcism (yeah, even that!) and lots of love triangles! When you watch it, sometimes you have to squirm at the storyline ('why can't he just tell her he loves her' or 'why doesn't anyone realize that she's scheming to break them apart??'). The characters in the show have the tendency to be brought back to life after they 'died'.

The actors and actresses are really good! Some of the famous ones are Deidre Hall, John Aniston (yup, Jennifer Aniston's dad), Drake Hogestyn and so on. For more details you can read from this Wiki link. Did i tell you that soap opera actors are all very good looking? The style of acting differs from normal dramas and movies. It's more erm...dramatic. Remember Joey from 'Friends' who acted for a while in Days of our lives? Dr. Drake Ramoray, of course it's not a real character in the soap.

After i got into college i rarely got to watch this soap again and i don't think it's shown on telly anymore. I sure miss watching it, but the show is really too lengthy to follow.

Everything's falling into place...

Just 6 months ago we purchased our very own place. And after all the hassle of buying, getting the loan, looking for contractors and so on, the place is almost ready to move in. The whole process from the start to now is sure not easy. But everything's taking shape now and the place is looking more like a home.

Heck, Mickey already called dibs on the tv

Some of the furniture. Spot the Ikea!

The date has been picked and we're finally moving in. Gosh, i better start packing!

Dinner at Sushi Tomo

Me and Wendy had dinner at Sushi Tomo in SS2 last friday. We both have never been to the place before so we went to try it out. It was already about 7.30pm, and the place was empty. Some diners did come in much later. Not to mention the manager was going about scolding some of his staff.

Wendy had fish roe + rice and a plate of salmon while i had unagi + rice. They had nothing much on the conveyor belt, only 4 plates of sushi and a few types of drinks they were advertising.

Their touch screen menu

Bottles on the conveyor belt

Salmon

Wendy's hot bowl

My unagi and rice. I could feel the bones each time i ate and got 1 stuck at my gums!

Overall, the food was ok but the portion was small (do not be deceive by the pictures) and so not worth the price. It's not that i'm pennywise, it's like not doing justice to japanese food. I *heart* Rakuzen.

Wen, next time we go to Omitsu Koshi at DJ.

*Note, this is all what i feel about my dining experience there only, not to degrade the place

Iron Man

I went to watch Iron Man a.k.a Orang Besi (yes, that was the translation given...no comment) on Saturday. The much awaited movie didn't disappoint the viewers.

The movie is about Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) the CEO of Stark Industries that produces advance weapons. Long story short, he was abducted in Afghanistan by terrorists and was held hostage in a cave together with Yinsen (Shaun Taub). The terrorists wanted him to build his Jericho missile using parts from other weapons. Tony was quite stunned as to how the terrorists got hold of his products and were using it for their own evil ways.

During the time given, Tony with the help of Yinsen, built a suit as an escape route. He managed to escape and once back in America he built a better suit while his 'business partner' Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges - the obvious bad guy from the start) got hold of the suit he used to escape the cave. Obadiah created his own version of the suit and produced the Iron Monger. Inevitably, Tony and Obadiah fight it out and of course Tony wins. The movie ends with Tony revealing that he is indeed Iron Man at a press conference.

Robert Downey Jr. did a great job playing Tony Stark and i can't wait for the next Iron Man movie. I remember watching him in Ally McBeal and he has aged a lot since then, but still a good actor. He was also the voice of Patrick Pewterschmidt if you watch Family Guy.

*Do wait around till after the credits, there's a little more to the movie

Remembering Paris....

I was going through some old photos and i came across a few photos i took when i was in Paris 3 years ago with my parents. We were lucky cause when we were there it was Bastille Day (July 14th) and they had fireworks at the Eiffel Tower.

We already visited the Eiffel Tower in the morning and went the all the way back at night, despite the crowd, to watch the fireworks. So if you have the chance to visit Paris on the 14th of July, don't miss it!
