Dinner at Qba

A couple of weekends ago, we had dinner at Qba located at Westin Hotel. It was our first time there, so we were looking forward to a nice dinner with friends. I was quite trigger happy the whole night, taking photos of all our food and stopping people from eating first. Here are the pictures.

The obligatory menu picture

Our still empty table

The kitchen

Heard they had to fly in a special team to paint the walls this way

We had a full course dinner of starters, mains, side dishes, dessert & coffee. We were all stuffed at the end of the meal.

Wine to kick things off

Salad with blue cheese

Usually, i do not enjoy smoked salmon. But this time, i really enjoyed it. I fell in love with the first mouthful. It really melts in your mouth.

Smoked Salmon

Salad with grilled octopus

Steak fries as a side dish

Lamb cutlet with a banana fritter on top

Rib eye Australian Grain Fed Black Angus Beef

Burned Crème Catalane

Caramelized Argentinian Crepes with Ice-cream

illy coffee

Chocolate cigars to end the meal

It was a very satisfying meal at Qba. The steaks were all right, though Prime is still top of my list.

Monkey business

Happy Chinese New Year all!! How was your holiday? I was back in my hometown for about a week. Though the holidays are over, but CNY is not. The eating and gambling continues!

Back in my hometown, there's a popular park called 'Tanjung Emas' where lots of people go there for the playground, to jog, kite flying, or for a walk by the river. There's also a spot where there are lots of monkeys! People usually go there to look at the monkeys or to feed them. There's usually a trader selling snacks, so the monkeys will crowd around there. After so long, the monkeys are not afraid of people anymore. They can be quite bold and even snatch food from people holding any food. Monkeys eating out from packets of junk food are not a rare sight.

Each evening, locals will take a drive around that place to look at the monkeys. Just like the rest, I followed my brother and his family one evening to watch the monkeys. He parked his car by the roadside for baby Cheyenne to have a better look.

Monkeys sitting around the jogging path

Sometimes the monkeys will jump onto parked cars. If they see something interesting in the car, they will try to grab it only to be deterred by the windows.

I saw this poor guy trying to get into his car. He tried to shoo the monkeys away from the driver's door. After failing to do so, he had to get into the back door on the other side and then crawl into the driver's seat.

Poor guy managed to get into the rear seat

Successfully squeezed into the front

In the end he managed to drive off, but with a couple of monkeys car pooling.

Monkeys hitching a ride back into town?

That was sure an entertaining afternoon.

Somebody ordered a roast pig?

*This post is definitely NOT halal

Attended a big birthday celebration last weekend. It was held in the house for 90 over people. We reached early to help out with the preparations, but everything was already settled. The canopy was up, tables were set, the catered food already warming up and the beers were being chilled in ice.

Soon after we reached, the main course arrived. It sure looked like a dead body under the wrappings.

Roast pork

Little did we know the price includes the butcher as well. He came armed with an assistant, a folded table, chopping board, knife and styrofoam boxes to keep the extra meat. When the dinner started, he started chopping. In no time he had chopped everything up and he even had time to entertain request from the guests.

All chopped up

Origami

Did everyone have a good holiday? I was back in my hometown for Christmas, to celebrate with my family. As usual we would put all our presents under the Christmas tree.

The haul this year

My nephew received this activity book from my brother. So I was flipping through the book and found it very interesting! It teaches kids to make crafts, paper planes, friendship bands, origami and so on. As my nephew still needed some guidance on how to make the crafts, I decided to make some for him.

Activity book

I started off making some airplanes and then after that turned to make some origami animals. Started off with this crab. A song from South Park comes to mind which goes like this: 'Crab people, crab people, taste like crab, talk like people'.

Mmmm....crab

My masterpiece, minus the eyes and colour

I remember folding this one at school last time. The jumping frog. It hops in front whenever you hold your finger on the frog's back and then slide your finger off.

How to fold a frog

Ta-da! My jumping frog

Pretty interesting huh?

Ready for Christmas

After weeks of scouting and shopping, I have my presents all wrapped and ready to go!

I was at Toys R Us the other day to buy my presents, so I was watching how the staff was wrapping my presents. I went home to try to imitate......but failed! There goes any chance of me being a present-wrapper-person..... Oh well.

Here's to wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Cakes these days...

Have you seen the extravagant birthday cakes these days?? The younger you are, the more awesome the cake is. I attended my niece Cheyenne's first birthday last month and her cake was so 'woahhh'.

Here, let me show you my first birthday cake. Big and round with a huge '1' on it. Though some people have their cakes shaped as the number.

My cake

Now here's Cheyenne's cake. So detailed and pretty.
